Next year Wright

Kevin Fiorenzo at Mets.com writes about David Wright and the contract he hopes to get next year:

Wright, who was a starter for the National League at this year's All-Star Game, said that he was happy for Reyes, but isn't thinking about any upcoming deals because he is behind Reyes in term of arbitration eligibility.

"I'm happy for Jose, he's earned it. It's great for the organization," Wright said. "[But] I'm not worried, he's a year ahead of me."

"When the time is right, we'll discuss something long-term," Minaya said. "David is one class behind Jose. When the appropriate time comes we'll talk about those things."

Like Reyes, Wright has proven to be a breakout player for the Mets, one that the organization would like to see playing in New York for a long time. The second-year third baseman is hitting .308 with 81 RBIs and 21 home runs.

For his part, Wright has expressed a desire to remain with the Mets.

"I want to be here for a long time. I've made that very known," Wright said. "I'm just going to go out and play the same way."
