The starting rotation
Matthew Cerrone at Metsblog writes about the buzz coming from the Mets on their starting rotation:
In a loss to the Marlins last night, Mike Pelfrey allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking four over six innings pitched…
Pelfrey is 2–1 with a 5.48 ERA in five starts for the Mets. Opponents are batting .305 against him…
As it stands, Steve Trachsel will start today for the Mets, eight days since he last took the mound, while Pedro Martinez starts tomorrow…
Willie Randolph told reporters last night that he intends to drop back to a five-man rotation, meaning either Pelfrey or John Maine will get bumped…
Maine has not allowed a run over his last 17 innings pitched…
…the buzz around new york has Orlando Hernandez starting on friday, while Tom Glavine will pitch on saturday…
…from what i can gather, if maine gets the start, pelfrey will ship back to the minors…if pelfrey gets the start, maine will move to the bullpen…
…my sense is that randolph and company are leaning towards maine, but since the next open start is sunday, i would not expect a decision to come out for another day or so…
