Wright gets contract
Mets signed third baseman David Wright to a six-year, $55 million contract.
The 23-year-old Wright gets a $1.5 million signing bonus and salaries of $1 million next year, $5 million in 2008, $7.5 million in 2009, $10 million in 2010, $14 million in 2011 and $15 million in 2012. There is a $1 million buyout if the Mets do not exercise a $16 million option for the 2013. The Mets don't have the potential savings here that they did in the Jose Reyes deal, but since Wright is about as safe as an investment as anyone in the game, it looks like a good signing. They're also getting two or three years of free agency, which is one more than they have with Reyes.
