Pelfrey and Humber go home

Marty Noble at Mets.com writes about Mike Pelfrey and Phillip Humber:

Following Wednesday's game, the Mets thanked rookie right-handers Mike Pelfrey and Phil Humber for their contributions and sent them home for the season. Neither pitcher would have made the postseason roster, and the Mets presumably do not want to have either one throw too many innings.

Humber, who pitched a scoreless inning in Wednesday's game, threw 78 1/3 innings this season after recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery on his right arm. Pelfrey, who spent time at Class A St. Lucie, Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Norfolk as well as with the Mets, compiled 116 2/3 innings among the four stops.

The Mets also sent right-handers Brian Bannister and Heath Bell to their Spring Training complex in Port St. Lucie, telling the two pitchers to be ready should an injury open up a spot on the postseason roster.
