Valentin's deal

It looks likeJose Valentin will be with the Mets for at least one more year. Here are the numbers to go along with his contract:

One year deal for 3.8 million

Also, his option for 2008 will vest with 400 plate appearances

It's a stronger deal than he seemed likely to get, especially with the Mets talking to so many other second basemen. They'll continue to consider bringing in another option, but it looks like they'll be content if Valentin enters spring training as their starter.
