Mets sign DiFelice

Kevin Czerwinski at MLB.com, writes about the signing of Mike DiFelice to a Minor League contract:

Mike DiFelice's role on the Major League level has dwindled considerably in recent years, but he provides a insurance policy behind the plate, one viable enough that the Mets felt compelled to sign him to a Minor League contract on Tuesday.

DiFelice has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Mets, appearing in 26 games. He hit .080 (2-for-25) with an RBI in 15 games during August and September. He spent the bulk of the season at Double-A Binghamton, where he hit .277 with a homer and 19 RBIs. DiFelice also appeared in one game for Triple-A Norfolk before the Mets purchased his contract on Aug. 4.

The 11-year veteran has a .235 career average with 28 homers and 158 RBIs in 527 games.
