Pending Physical, Park Deal Done

Mark Hale at the NY Post writes about Chan Ho Park and the Mets:

The Mets have agreed to terms, pending a physical, with righthander Chan Ho Park, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The Mets' pursuit of Park, according to the person, came about after Williams, who was going to contend for a starting spot, had surgery for a herniated disc in his neck. Last week, his agent, David Pepe, told the Post that Williams could need three moths before he's "ready to pitch in games."

According to the person, the contract for Park -- who will turn 34 in June -- will be a major league deal. It's believed to be for one year and has a base salary of less than $1 million.
Last year with San Diego, Park went 7-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 24 games (21 starts) for the Padres. That was actually his lowest ERA since he had a 3.50 mark in 2001. Since then, he hadn't posted an ERA lower than 5.46 until last season.

Park, however, has had good success at Shea Stadium, posting a 2.92 ERA in six games (three starts) there.
