Why Alou Came To Mets

Charlie Nobles at Mets.com, writes about Moises Alou and why he decided to come to New York:

"What a better place to go out, what a better chance to go out, than New York," he said. "It's the best place for you to succeed. I never had any bad year in my career, so what a better place to win like in New York?"

Alou, a six-time All-Star, figures to begin the season hitting sixth for the Mets and give them more balance against left-handed pitching, a deficiency last season.

"He's a guy who can hit a fastball, and that's big, because about 50 percent to 70 percent of the pitches are fastballs," first baseman Carlos Delgado said. "And he gives us another dimension, another weapon, particularly from the point of view that we've been predominantly left-handed. That makes it a little more complicated for the opposition. The matchups aren't going to be as easy for them."
