How Sweep It Is...to See Delgado Back!

On the heals of losing 2 of 3 to the Braves, the Mets bounced back well, sweeping the Marlins in Florida this past weekend. The bigger news is the seeming return of Carlos Delgado, swatting two dingers on Saturday. Over at mets.com they recapped the weekend sweep, including the following highlights:

  • At 32-17, they are playing two games better than at this point last season, when they went on to compete in the National League Championship Series.

  • They have now won seven straight games at Dolphin Stadium, five of them this season.

  • They have not made an error in the last seven games.

  • Closer Billy Wagner managed his 30th consecutive save, expanding his franchise record. And with the Braves losing, Sunday's victory gave the Mets their biggest division lead of the season, 4 1/2 games.

The injury-bug, unfortunately, continues, as right-fielder Shawn Green suffered a fracture of the metatarsal bone on his right foot in Friday's game against the Marlins and the Mets await the results of an MRI, which they will receive tomorrow, Tuesday. And outfielder Carlos Gomez strained his left hamstring in Saturday's game and is game-to-game right now. With Moises Alou on the DL and still not ready to return to play, the Mets had Ben Johnson standing by until they find out more about their outfield situation. At least O-Hern is back, Mota is on the way, and Pedro and Jose Valentin continue to improve...think of it this way- we have the best record in the NL, the second-best in baseball (behind the Red Sox), and we will receive a huge influx of top talent no later than 60 days from now (Pedro, Valentin, Sanchez, Padilla, etc.) Things look pretty good today, an off-day, so go bar-b-que today and drink a beer to our success so far...
