Mota's Eventual Return

Mark Hale at the New York Post, writes about Guillermo Mota and his eventual return:

Guillermo Mota could be eligible to return to the Mets on May 30, 19 days away. Mota, who's suspended for the first 50 games of the season due to steroids, is in St. Lucie, Fla., for extended spring training.

"Everything is right on track, according to [rehab pitching coordinator] Randy Niemann," Guy Conti, the Mets bullpen coach, said Wednesday. "His changeup's outstanding. His fastball's great. So he's right on track."

Mota came to spring training late, and he's been away from the club all season. But his potential impact on the Mets can't be trivialized. If Mota returns and can be a reliable late-inning arm, the Mets bullpen will significantly change. Especially since they have had a couple of late-game problems, particularly against Atlanta.
