Game Recap:: Mets 2 -- Cardinals 1

We should not have won that game, but I'll take it any way I can!

The Mets scraped out a win against a wonderful start from Mike Maroth, who only allowed 2 hits through 7.1 innings. The Mets went 7 innings without a hit, spanning from Carlos Gomez's solo home run in the third inning to Shawn Green's solo shot in the eleventh inning. Jorge Sosa regained that wonderful form of the beginning of the year, pitching 6 amazing innings only allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run. Sosa walked only 2 and struck out 5.

...welcome back Sosa!...

Joe Smith and Pedro Feliciano battled out of a 2 on, no out scenario and kept the game tied at 1.
Feliciano went on to pitch a scoreless eigth inning.

...the beginning of a great bullpen performance...

Billy Wagner pitched 2 stellar innings, not allowing a hit, and striking out 3 batters.

...continues his dominant pitching this year...

Aaron Heilman, who was the pitcher of record, improving to 6-3, allowed only 1 hit, while striking out 2 in the top of the 11th inning.

Now for the very little offense that still somehow won tonights game...

3 hits. Thats all the Mets had tonight.
What helped was that 2 of those hits were solo home runs.

Carlos Gomez and Shawn Green knocked solo home runs for the only Met runs of the game.
Carlos Delgado picked up the other hit for the Mets, a single in the 2nd inning.

Shawn Green blasted a ball just foul 2 pitches before he ended the game when he knocked a ball high off the scoreboard in right field.

...another great game! we did just enough...
...absolutely stellar pitching...

Game Ball:: Gomez, Green, and Sosa.
