Gomez Keeps Impressing

In yesterday’s romp of the Athletics, Carlos Gomez went three for four with a run scored and a stolen base. Gomez has now gotten his average up to .277 and has eight stolen bases.

Now that the Mets are seeing a drastic improvement in Gomez’s patience at the plate and his quick maturing baseball attitude, there is no reason to demote him down to Triple-A when Alou comes back off the Disabled List.

What the Mets are faced with is a decision to keep Alou (possibly on the bench) or to trade him away to another team for some bullpen help. This is the perfect opportunity to improve on one of the Mets only weaknesses.

Besides the Alou situation, Gomez is constantly raising his average and may in fact get it above the .300 mark and if that continues to happen, the Mets could be in for a two horse race in stolen bases next year.

The future is very bright for the Mets and the only thing we, the fans, can hope for is that Fernando Martinez lives up to his hype hen he eventually makes his first appearance in a Mets uniform.
