Milledge Just Can't Win

Lastings Milledge can’t do anything right in the eyes of reporters. The kid has a great day at the plate and just because he was having a little fun with John Maine (when he hit his first career home run), all of a sudden Milledge has turned back into the player who high fived the fans after his first career home run. Next thing you know, the reporters will start getting on Reyes’ case for his high fives and smiling through out the game.

Any way, here's some of the article from Newsday (by Anthony Reiber):

Lastings Milledge was on second base last night when John Maine hit his home run in the fourth inning of the Mets' 8-4 win. As he headed for home, an excited Milledge celebrated in that, shall we say, exuberant style that sometimes ticks opponents off.

Were the Pirates ticked off? Manager Jim Tracy said, "I'm not going to get into that" when asked about Milledge's antics, which included waving Maine around the bases like a third-base coach. But the second pitch of Milledge's next at-bat was a fastball to the elbow from reliever Tony Armas Jr.

"If they're mad, then I don't know what to say," Milledge said. "That's what we do. We're passionate about the game. We get really, really excited. It's not that we're showing up anybody."
