Delgado Hurt

From Ed Ryan at Mets Fever (Network Member):

Just as he was heating up Carlos Delgado injured himself late in tonight's game. I've said for the past two weeks that a hitter like Delgado couldn't stay cold all season and was due to break out in a big way. With the bases loaded, in a blow out game and a minor league level reliever on the mound, Delgado almost cork screwed himself into the ground swinging for the fences. He immediately reached for his hip, winced in pain and limped around the plate. On the next pinch he struck out and as he weakly swung, once again Delgado grimmest. He was replaced in the field by Shawn Green to complete the game.....

More to follow as it becomes available.........

FROM THE CLUBHOUSE-CARLOS DELGADO:

He said he ``tweaked’’ his right hip. I couldn’t find that word in the medical dictionary. What it means is he probably won’t play tomorrow. source John Delcos

UPDATE: Delgado to miss 10 days, Mets will go with a platoon of Conine and Green at first with no plans to promote a minor leaguer.......

Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado will miss a week to 10 days with a strained
right hip flexor, New York vice president of player development Tony Bernazard
said Wednesday after the Mets' 7-0 loss to the Reds. source MLB.com
