Game Recap:: Nationals 9 -- Mets 8

Looks familiar...

Tonight, the offense was on, the defense was great, but the starting pitching was nowhere to be found. The Mets lost to the Nationals 9-8, after holding a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

John Maine lasted only 4 and 1/3 innings, 8 earned run on 11 hits. Maine walked 2 and struck out 6. He gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th innings. He started off well, gave up an early home run, and through the next 3 innings, simply collapsed.

...he doesn't seem to have anything left...

Scott Schoeneweis pitch 1 and a 1/3, gave up one hit and 1 earned run on a home run in the 6th inning.

...thumbs down...

Guillermo Mota pitched 1/3 of an inning, and amazingly did not allow a run.
Aaron Heilman and Pedro Feliciano finished out the game, with only Feliciano giving up a hit.

...some have good days, other have terrible ones...

David Wright went 2-5 tonight, driving in one run and scoring once in the 4-run first inning the Mets put together.

...he struck out in a key spot in the 8th inning though...not good...

Carlos Beltran went 1-5, also scoring and driving in one, but he also struck out 3 times tonight.

...oh boy...

Moises Alou kept his hitting streak alive, going 2-3 with a run scored before being removed for a pinch runner in the 5th inning.

...he felt tightness in his hamstring, don't want to risk anything...

Shawn Green was the best Mets hitter tonight, going 3-4 in the game. He drove in one run on his solo home run in the 3rd inning. He also scored twice.

...great game from Green...you can tell he wants this...

Paul Lo Duca went 2-4 with a walk, one run scored, and two RBI's.

...between him and Green, they've really been contributing from the 6 and 7 spots...

Endy Chavez went 3-3 tonight, driving in 2 RBI.
Jeff Conine went 2-2, and drove in the run in the 9th inning.

...so close...
...i thought they were going to come back tonight...i really did...good to see them claw back though...

...seriously Mets...let's go...

Game Ball:: Shawn Green.
