Peavey Over Wright...What?

Tim Sullivan at Sign On San Diego writes why he thinks that Jake Peavey deserves the NL MVP over David Wright:

On Peavy:

With 17 victories, a 2.44 earned-run average and 215 strikeouts, Peavy ranks first in his league in all three of pitching's “triple crown” categories. Except for last week's short-rest shelling in Arizona, he has been as consistently dominant as any of the league's daily participants.

Remove Peavy from the rotation and the Padres are a team treading water and liable to drown. With Peavy, Bud Black's undernourished lineup retains top priority in the National League's wild-card competition.
On Wright:

The New York lobby, as provincial as it is influential, has lately been leaning toward Mets third baseman David Wright. Wright is a fine player by any standard, a core component on the league's best team. Yet as of the start of yesterday's games, he ranked no higher than fourth in any significant statistical category.

Not only that, any objective appraisal would place Wright a distant second among the third basemen in his own town, where Alex Rodriguez also works.
