Some Good Odds

With the elimination number (19) dwindling down with each passing game, it seems more and more likely that the Mets will find themselves, once again, in October baseball. I know that I’m jumping the gun on this one and counting my chickens before they hatch, but I do have a point.

Next week the Mets will host, both, the Braves and the Phillies and with their new air of superiority, due mostly to the return of Pedro Martinez, they should be able to take at least two of three against their, spiraling out of control, main competitors.

If the games behind remain the same until the Mets meet up with Phillie and Atlanta and the Mets take two of three against them, they will hold an 8.5 game lead over the Braves and a 6 game lead over the Phillies. At that point the magic number will have reduced itself down to a mere 10 games, all but eliminating the Braves and putting the Phillies in a desperate situation.

All the Mets would have to do after this would be to take care of business with Washington (6 games), St. Luis (1 game) and Florida (7 games).

I don’t know about any of you, but that seems like some good odds to me.
