What To Expect From Pedro

At Mets Geek Wdwrkr35 (screen name) writes about the current Met starters and what we might be expecting from them. I'm going to just focus on Pedro Martinez. If you want to see their entire analysis use the link in the Mets Geek title:

Last year in 5 GS and 28 IP he was 3-1 with a 2.97 era. He had 32 K’s in 28 IP for a 10.20 K/9 average, his career K/9 is 10.20 so coming back from an injury with some lost velocity hasn’t effected his ability to strike men out. Pedro had 7 walks in 28 IP for a 2.25 BB/9 average so his control is still magnificent. I think the mets will start him off on a 5 day rest schedule just like they did last year, be it through using the days off early in the season or just pushing a couple of his starts back a day as long as the weather is still cold in april. Risking an injury to their best pitcher in cold weather would be an enormous mistake and I hope Omar drives this policy hard to Willie. I think the best we can expect from Pedro is 150 IP for the year coming off the injuries. He averaged 5.6 IP per game last year so that would be 26 starts if he can throw that many innings if he doesn’t have any setbacks. In 26 starts ,best case scenerio , he could win 14 games based on his career 209 wins in 380 GS average of 55%. Based on the same formula 93 losses in 380 IP for 24% he should lose 6 games on the season. The other 21% of his starts will be no decisions of course. I think everyone would take a 14-6 W/L record from Pedro in 2008, I expect his era to be somewhere in the mid to high 3 era range. I understand that his career numbers should be thrown out because of the serious injuries he suffered in 2006 but I think Pedro is that special player who can rise to the occasion and get it done even when hes not in his best condition as we saw last year and he will be even in better shape coming into this year.
