Nooks And Crannies

Ben Shipgel at The New York Times writes about the new outfield wall in Port St. Luciereflecting Citifield and how the gaps are many:

The staff down here in Port St. Lucie was mandated to tear down the fence on the main field and install a new one with the same dimensions as Citi Field. Wow. There are nooks and crannies everywhere, particularly in center and right-center field, which I think are pretty cool. Then again, I don’t play outfield, and for this I am thankful.

I remember Damion Easley’s inside-the-park homer in Milwaukee last August, when the ball caromed off an angled section of the right-center field fence. There’s no right way to play that sort of ball
