Detroit In No Rush To Trade Thames

John Paul Morosi at the Detroit Free Press writes about the possibility the Mets and Tigers making a trade for Marcus Thames and how it probably won’t happen:

There are a lot of reasons to believe New York has genuine interest in Thames. But here’s one big reason why a trade between the teams probably won’t happen: Detroit manager Jim Leyland has a very strong loyalty to Thames.

As Leyland said earlier this week: “He can play on my team anytime. I think he’s a very valuable guy.”

Yes, the Tigers need relief pitching. Yes, the Mets have some surplus they could trade. But Dave Dombrowski doesn’t seem to be in any rush to strike a deal.
