Pedro Movin' Right Along...

The Happy Recap - 2 games, 2 wins, 3 pitchers making great impressions, and a bunch of happy Mets' fans, even though it's still 2 weeks away from Opening Day!

First, and foremost, Pedro Martinez, in his first "real" spring training start, had excellent stuff during his 4 sometimes trying innings. Pedro was hit hard a couple of times, but pitched well in striking out 4 in 4 innings, including Ordonez and Cabrera, with 4 hits and no runs allowed. His fastball topped off at around 88mph, but with Pedro's speed and movement, the self-acclaimed "Picasso" doesn't need to rely on that heater as much as he did in year's past. Besides, we're betting that once his arm gains additional strength in a month or two, he'll be topping out in the 90-91mph range, which is far more than enough mph to keep batters guessing all season long!
The Mets' won the game from the Tigers, in the second of 2 split-squad games, 7-4. Martinez was followed by Matt Wise, who threw one scoreless inning in his quest to make the team, followed in order by Stokes (4 earned runs in one inning), Schoeneweis (2 k's and no runs in an inning - and he looked really good), Feliciano (1 inning, no runs) and Register (no runs, 1 inning, 1 save). Carlos Delgado had an RBI, and also suffered an arm gash from a split bat, resulting in 4 stitches. He'll probably be day-to-day, and my bet is he won't play on Monday.

In the second game, against the Astros, the Mets won, 6-4, while Nelson Figueroa and Jorge Sosa battled for the long relief/spot starter role, with Figueroa starting and going 4 innings, giving up 1 run and 1 hit in 4 innings with 2 k's; Sosa came on to pitch 3 innings with 4 k's. Fernando Martinez continued his great spring with a hit, 2 RBI's and 2 good catches! Moises who??? (LOL)

I'll ALWAYS take 2 wins in one day - EVEN in Spring!!!! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday- Pedro's made sure that I will!!!!!
