Brooklyn Eagle writes about Dylan Owen and how he is racking up the Awards and could be on thefast track to the Majors:
The 21-year-old right-hander continued to pile up the individual honors this past week as he was tabbed the Topps New York-Penn League Player of the Year. Owen, a South Carolina native who attended Francis Marion University, had already been named a New York-Penn League All-Star, the organization’s Sterling Award winner as the best prospect at his respective level and minor league baseball.com’s Short-Season Pitcher of the Year.
Not a bad resume for a 5-foot-11, 185-pound dynamo who throws with the guile and ferocity of a seasoned veteran, despite his baby-face looks.
“The way he pitched all year, he was our ace,” Brooklyn manager Edgar Alfonzo said after watching his No. 1 hurler lead the NY-Penn in victories (nine) and ERA (1.49). Owen, like most big-time pitchers, finished the campaign strong, yielding only one earned run over 34 innings during his final six appearances. That stretch of dominance included five scoreless frames in a first-round series-clinching playoff victory over the hated Staten Island Yankees, a team he beat three times in as many outings during the regular season as well.
i remember watching this kid on sny and thinking that the mets are going to trade him just to have us suffer
