The pitching staff

Ron Darling at SNY gives his views on the Mets pitching staff:

The pitching staff seems to be of much concern for Mets fans. Let's say that the bullpen is a given. It is one of the strengths of the team and will match up well with any team in any league. That leaves us with starting rotation. It is older, and control-type pitchers do not seem to fare as well in the playoffs as power pitchers. I seem to be in the minority but I believe that when October rolls around and the weather gets cooler, Martinez, Glavine, Hernandez and Trachsel will get a second life. Never discount veteran pitchers who sense reality--this might be their last time, their last go around to get their first ring (for Trachsel) or another championship (for Pedro, Tom and El Duque.) Playoff baseball + 18 outs needed + outstanding bullpen = October success.
