The return of Milledge

Steve Popper at North Jersey writes about the return of Lastings Milledge to the Mets starting line up:

While the team was left with question marks after the injury to Duaner Sanchez and the trade that followed, it did open a spot for Milledge to rejoin the Mets, bringing the talented, but still maturing 21-year-old outfielder back to the majors, a move that Minaya said would become official today.

In Milledge, the Mets promoted the player who was on the wish list of nearly every trade talk the Mets engaged in. He was the starting point for discussions and the Mets weighed the decision of whether to let him go. Now they hope he can begin to realize his potential quick enough to have the impact that the team dreamed a Jason Schmidt or Barry Zito might have had.
