Should #31 be retired?
Matthew Cerrone at Metsblog writes about the ovation for Mike Piazza and puts up an argument for the retirement of Piazza's number:
Prior to last night’s game, the Mets honored the blue-n-orange career of Mike Piazza with a video presentation on the stadium’s scoreboard…
The crowd gave Piazza a standing ovation when he walked from the bullpen to the dugout before the game, they did the same through his entire first at-bat, as well as again, and again, over his following at-bats…
Piazza, on the day’s events, talking with reporters after last night’s game…
“It was so hard for me to go out and play. It was just a little bit draining emotionally for me and physically. It was one of those amazing moments and I can't really explain how honored I am, because you just don't see that a lot in sports today.”…
…For me, regardless of what he does the rest of his life, i will always be thankful to him for the fun and excitement that spilled out of shea through 1998 and 2000…
…There were several signs at the stadium last night demanding the team retire his number…i think it should be retired, as well…no question…what do you think…
