Pedro for long relief

Why do the Mets have to start Pedro Martinez at all in the Post Season? Maybe it would be the best thing if Pedro took on the role that Orlando Hernandez took last year as the long relief man. Obviously he isn’t going to be ready for the first round of the Playoffs, so why throw everyone out of whack by inserting an uncertain Martinez in the second round or even the World Series, if we make it that far.

Just put Martinez in as the long relief man and give John Maine the fourth starter’s job. He has earned it.

This move could prove to be beneficial to the whole team, or it could destroy what confidence is left in an already shaky Pedro Martinez. Either way I say it’s worth the gamble.
