Martinez to have surgery

Brian Costello at The NY Post writes about the surgery that Pedro Martinez is going to have this afternoon:

Pedro Martinez spent yesterday rooting for his Mets teammates. Today, they'll be rooting for him.

Martinez is scheduled to have surgery today on his right rotator cuff at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

He cheered from the top step of the dugout during the Mets' 6-5 victory over the Dodgers yesterday. As he left the clubhouse after the game, manager Willie Randolph and assistant general manager Tony Bernazard hugged the pitcher and wished him luck.

"It's a big day," Martinez said. "Let's see what happens. ... I'm putting it in God's hands. Whatever happens, happens."
