Mets interested in Vazquez

Ken Rosenthal at Fox Sports, writes about the Mets and their interest in Javier Vazquez:

The Mets again are targeting White Sox right-hander Javier Vazquez, a longtime favorite of Mets general manager Omar Minaya, who had Vazquez when he was G.M. of the Expos.

Vazquez is signed for one more season at $12.5 million, but his team actually can keep him through 2008; he forfeited his right to become a free agent for three years when the Diamondbacks honored his trade request after the '05 season.

The Mets are reluctant to trade young talent for a starting pitcher whom they would control for only one year, but if they acquired Vazquez, they could retain him in '08 by offering him salary arbitration.
