On Jason Standridge

Yesterday the Mets claimed right handed relief pitcher Jason Standridge from the Reds on waivers. Standridge had a 1-1 record and 4.82 ERA in 21 games with the Reds in 2006.

Standridge was a first round pick of the Devil Rays in the 1997 First Year Player Draft, he began the 2006 season with AAAA. His contract was purchased on June 19, and he was assigned on the disabled list on Aug. 7 because of back spasms. He rejoined the Reds in September.

Standridge had appeared in 21 games with the Rays from 01-04, and in two games with the Rangers in 2005.

Overall, he has a 3-4 record and a 5.64 ERA in 76 Major League appearances, including nine starts. In 119 2/3 innings, Standridge has allowed 140 hits and 69 walks, while striking out 74.

If he can get his strik outs to walks ratio down he could be a great player to have in the pen.
