On Jason Vargas

Omar Minaya thought it was worth giving up two guys who throw in the mid 90's to see whether Vargas can regain the form that made him look like a future number 3 starter entering the season. I think it's a pretty good gamble. Odds are that one of Lindstrom and Owens will turn out to be a quality reliever for a few years, but Vargas is the one pitcher here with a chance of having a 15 year career.

He had a decent rookie year in 2005 with the Marlins, posting a 4.03 ERA and a 5-5 record. 2006 is where he hit a bump in the road. He posted a 7.33 ERA and a 1-2 record.

Hopefully Peterson can work his magic on Vargas as he did on Perez.
