Chavez's free agent situation

Matthew Cerrone at Mets Blog, gives the information on Endy Chavez and when he will be a free agent:

Chavez was acquired as a non-tendered free agent last off-season. However, he has three years of major-league service and is eligible for salary arbitration, or the team can work out a new contract with him, most likely for one year, at which point he can revisit the entire process again next season, as well as the year after that.

The Mets can choose to non-tender Chavez, making him a free agent.
