Mets and Zito ready for face to face

Adam Rubin at the NY Daily News, writes about the Mets, Barry Zito and their upcoming meeting:

Omar Minaya hopes to speak with Barry Zito and Scott Boras this week. On which coast the face-to-face meeting takes place and exactly when it'll occur could be resolved today, the Mets GM said.

"We will have dialogue this week," Minaya wrote in an E-mail.

Now that Boras has completed Daisuke Matsuzaka's contract with the Red Sox, the super agent can focus his attention on Zito, the free-agent lefthander who has drawn interest from the Mets, Rangers and Giants.

David Wright and former A's pitching coach Rick Peterson are among the Mets ready to sell the 28-year-old pitcher on New York. Zito already has visited Texas.
