Mets meet with Zito

At the Rocky Mountain News, they write about the Mets Meeting with Barry Zito and his agent:

Mets general manager Omar Minaya said Monday he had a meeting scheduled with Zito’s agent, Scott Boras — known for driving a hard bargain. There figures to be plenty of competition for the ace left-hander, a free agent after going 16-10 with a 3.83 ERA for Oakland this year.

"Scott will tell us about his player and how great his player is. That’s his job," Minaya said on the first day of baseball’s winter meetings. "I just can’t worry about what other teams are doing. I know who we like and what we feel value is, and that’s all we can do."

"We know what we want. We know who we want," said Minaya, joined at the meetings Monday evening by Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon. "We also know the parameters of what we are going to spend. Just because the market goes in one area doesn’t mean we’re just going to chase the market."
