HOF announcement at 2

Mark Herrmann at Newsday, writes about the Hall of Fame announcement that will take place today at 2:

At 2 p.m. Tuesday, the National Baseball Hall of Fame will announce who has been elected in the most recent balloting. At about 2:01, if not sooner, many people will start saying how the voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America don't have a clue.

We baseball writers take that as a compliment.

It says that people care, which is good, and that we have set the bar high enough (election requires being named on at least 75 percent of the ballots). "There is such a fine line between the top 1 percent of players and the top 5 percent," said Jeff Idelson, vice president for communications at the Hall. "And the top 1 percent have plaques in Cooperstown."
