Standing up for Omar

Matthew Cerrone at Mets Blog, writes a good piece on how Omar has done good this off season despite the non-signings:

...fact is, as frustrating and unproductive as this off-season may feel, it has actual been very much the opposite in that a) the Mets did not leap forward and grant a foolish contract that will limit roster and financial flexibility in the future, and b) Omar Minaya continues to stick to his promise to build a winning franchise that will contend for several years, not just a few…had he mortgaged the future, or bogged down the rotation with middle-aged options, simply to make a move to appease a restless fanbase, he’d be a hypocrite and we’d be lambasting him in a few years for abandoned ship...

...i would better understand the restless fan if there had been obvious and easily attainable solutions that would have solved this teams ailments…however, no such solutions existed...

...if i may be so arrogant, here’s a little advice: when you feel the need to react negatively with total frustration towards this off-season’s apparent lack of progressive, simply ask yourself what else could have realistically been done…what were the alternate solutions…my guess is that you’ll end up realizing minaya had very little choice than to do what he has done, which i trust will work out best in the long-run…he got us this far in only two years…i suspect he knows what he is doing...
I totally agree with this piece. I mean would you rather bog down the team for 7 years to come or would you rather see what we got first? Good job Omar, good job.
