Mets Sign 2 Pitchers

The New York Mets have signed left-handed pitcher Mike Bynum and right-handed pitcher Jose Santiago to Minor League contracts. Both pitchers will report to Minor League Spring Training on March 2.

Bynum, 28, missed the entire 2006 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The 6-4, 200-pounder last played in the Detroit Tigers organization in 2005, splitting the season between Erie (AA) of the Eastern League and Toledo (AAA) of the International League.

He was 5-1 with a 4.26 ERA over 13 games with the two teams combined. In 50.2 innings, he has allowed 4Santiago, 32, spent the 2006 season with Tabasco (AAA) of the Mexican League.

Jose was 7-7 with a 4.55 ERA in 34 games, 19 starts. In 146.1 innings, he surrendered 195 hits, 79 runs, 74 earned, with 23 walks and 84 strikeouts.

The 6-3, 220-pounder was a member of the Mets organization in 2005, appearing in 29 games (17 starts) at Norfolk, and in four games out of the bullpen for New York. 7 hits, 29 runs, 24 earned with 22 walks and 46 strikeouts.
