Pedro Optimistic

John Delcos at Lo Hud writes about Pedro Martinez and how optimistic he is about his return:

Pedro Martinez is in camp which is a good thing, and he's optimistic, which is good to hear.

"I'll probably be better than people have seen at Shea," Martinez said. "According to what the doctors say, I should be coming back stronger and throwing harder."

All that's well and good, but we're still talking about a pitcher recovering from rotator cuff surgery. We're also talking about a pitcher who hasn’t yet thrown off the mound.

I know it is tempting to think the pitching staff will be all right once Martinez returns. But, part of my job is to be the ants at your Mets picnic ... all optimism aside, Martinez is not a given.
