The Real Reason For Inviting Sierra

We really don’t expect Ruben Sierra to be on the Opening Day roster, but GM Omar Minaya said him playing was only a partial reason for the invitation.

The Mets are looking to groom Sierra for a coaching or instructing spot in their organization.
Sierra said he’d like to be a hitting instructor.

"He could do that," Minaya said. "We're always thinking down the road."
