Sanchez Update

John Delcos at Lo Hud, writes about Duaner Sanchez and the progress he's making to be ready for the season:

Duaner Sanchez threw off flat ground this morning, a significant step in his recovery from shoulder surgery. Sanchez reported no pain or discomfort. He also didn’t report a date when he'll throw off the mound.

Sanchez is still hoping to be ready for Opening Day, but isn’t as optimistic as he was two weeks ago.

"I have to be patient about it," Sanchez said. "I can’t rush it."

Smart money is he won't be on the Opening Day roster. When you come to look at it, there are only three givens in the Mets' bullpen: Billy Wagner, Aaron Heilman and Scott Schoeneweis. Other guys, like Ambiorix Burgos and Pedro Feliciano are safe bets, but other than injuries, you can come up with a scenario that would keep them off.
