Howard's Status

Despite winning today, if Philly fans seem a little more depressed then yesterday when their team's record was 3-10 it's because the news about Ryan Howard. Jimmy Rollins maybe the spark plug of the club, but Howard is the heart and sole of the team. Just when the Phanatics were scratching their heads over the post Manuel temper tantrum and hoping nothing else could go wrong they find out that Howard will be day-to-day with a leg injury.

First baseman Ryan Howard was out of the starting lineup Thursday for the Philadelphia Phillies' 4-2 victory over the Washington Nationalsbecause of a left leg injury.

The reigning NL MVP hurt himself running out a fielder's choice grounder in the 10th inning Wednesday night but stayed in for the rest of Philadelphia's 5-4 loss in 13 innings.

Howard went 0-for-5 on Wednesday to drop his average to .213 for the season.The Phillies listed him as day-to-day, saying he sprained the ligament that connects the tibia to the fibula just below the knee. ESPN MLB
