Maine Looks More Like An Ace In Win

Jeff Seidel at Mets.com, writes about the Mets 1-0 win over the Nationals yesterday:

The Mets got only three hits in Sunday's game, but one was Carlos Beltran's decisive solo homer in the sixth.

Washington (8-17) got six hits, but the Nationals went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base.

The Mets also got strong performances from starter John Maine (4-0, 1.35 ERA) and relievers Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis and Billy Wagner. Maine was spectacular, giving up three hits and striking out eight in seven innings. Schoeneweis came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth and got Ryan Church to ground out to Franco at first.

Wagner then retired the side in the ninth for his fourth save, his first since April 12 against the Phillies.
