Brew Crew, One and Two, So Where Is The Mets Love? - Some Sunday Notes...

Well, so much for the so-called experts, as the Mets took 2 of 3 from the NL Central-leading Brewers of Milwaukee.

On the heals of being blown out yesterday, today was the team from Flushing's turn, beating the Brewers 9-1 behind the strong pitching of Oliver Perez, the hitting of second-sacker Damon Easley, and the spark from recent call-up, Carlos Gomez, who made a great accounting of himself, with 2 hits today, including a double, scoring 2 and stealing a base! Surrounded by Endy Chavez and Carlos Beltran, the Mets' fielded an outfield of gold glove winning and potential gold glove winners all around! Announcer Ron Darling speculated about what a great relay team we'd have with the likes of Chavez, Beltran, Gomez and Reyes!!

Brewers Are Darling:Everyone in the media has made the Brewers their darlings of late, as they run away with the NL Central. Of course, they haven't played an above .500 team since their series with the Dodgers, and since have taken advantage of such patsies as the Pirates, Reds, Cubs and Astros. We're not taking anything away from the team GM Doug Melvin has assembled, as this is definitely the most talented Brewers team since their short-lived hey day in 1982. However, the Mets are still a veteran-laden team, with a young core and great leadership - in other words, in response to yesterday's blow-out, fool me once... even today's LATimes has an article about their rise (click on the link to read it)...

Mike Pelfrey: Don't despair about Mr. Pelfrey- he'll get his act together in AAA and be back up before too long. Early in Spring Training, many of us were still skeptical (but welcome) towards Pelfrey's addition to the rotation, simply because we hadn't seen the addition of a great (or even good) breaking pitch to his arsenal. Sure enough, Pelfrey has had a predeliction for walking too many as hitters stayed off his heat, knowing he wouldn't get them out with his breaking stuff. He hasn't pitched terribly, and the beating he took yesterday sounds worse than he actually pitched. We are still, however, only a half game behind the Braves, with a game in hand, Jason Vargas looming on the horizon and eventually reinforcements arriving in the form of O-Hern and Mota, and, eventually, Martinez and Sanchez. We've got plenty left in our tank, and Wright and Delgado have yet to flex their muscles...

As soon as someone writes us off, a Ryan Howard goes down...so please, continue to underestimate us...
