Minor League Tracker: Carlos Gomez

David Lennon at Newsday, writes about the likelihood that Carlos Gomez will get the call up this season:

If Carlos Gomez already wasn't ahead of schedule, the injury to Lastings Milledge now has the 21-year-old outfielder one step away from the majors. Promoting him was a consideration this week before Moises Alou's shoulder MRI came back negative. Gomez may have cooled from his blistering start at Triple-A New Orleans, but he's still been impressive, batting .290 with seven doubles, a pair of triples, nine RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 17 attempts through the Zephyrs' first 27 games. He also has drawn 13 walks.

The Mets have envisioned opening Citi Field with Gomez in one of the corner outfield spots, with Fernando Martinez in the other. But the durability of the 40-year-old Alou already has been a concern only five weeks into the season, and with Milledge on the disabled list for the next 4-to-6 weeks because of strained ligaments in his right foot, there could be a window of opportunity in the not-too-distant future.
