Game Recap:: Cardinals 5 -- Mets 3

What a letdown...Why is Scott Schoeneweis still on this team??

Oliver Perez found his groove tonight, but the game went well beyond what he could pitch. Jose Valentin made 2 errors, which both allowed runs to scored, made up for one of the in the bottom of the 9th. The Mets lost 5-3 in 11 innings, this being the first loss to the Cardinals all season.

Perez pitched 6.1 innings, giving up only 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Ollie waked 3 and struck out 6 batters.

...a much better start from Ollie, his last few weren't very good, but this was solid...

Almost the entire bullpen made an appearence tonight, everyone pitching pretty good except Aaron Heilman and Scott Schoeneweis. Heilman, was just due, he had been pitching great as of late, and eventually you have to have a bad outing. Schoe on the other hand, all around stinks. The man is sporting a 5.86 ERA. FIVE POINT EIGHT SIX! This man needs to go. Go somewhere, and go there quickly.

Pedro Feliciano, Guillermo Mota, Billy Wagner, and Joe Smtih combined for the rest of the game, all pitching scoreless stints. Mota and Wagner each notched up a K.

...good outing from these guys...the defense just wasn't there tonight...ahem, Valentin...

The top 5 hitters each had one hit tongiht, with Carlos Beltran driving in a run with a double in the first inning. Paul Lo Duca picked up his RBI with a solo shot in the bottom of the 8th inning.

...we need a little more from these guys...i'm looking at you Delgado...

Shawn Green had a great at bat in the bottom of the 9th, working back from an 0-2 count to walk, and eventually come around on Jose Valentin's game tying double.

...too bad Valentin couldn't get the handle on those two balls in the field...

Game Ball:: Hmmm...Oliver Perez is the best candidate...
