Gomez's Lesson

Joe Gergen at Newsday, writes about Carlos Gomez and what Willie Randolph told him after his second home run Monday:

The manager said last night, "He plays with a flair. I just told him to keep it under control, that's all.

"If so, Gomez misinterpreted. "[Randolph told] me, 'I want you to make every swing like you did this time,'" the Dominican outfielder recalled. "'Go look at it on the tape. This is a beautiful swing.' Sometimes, I do too much at home plate.

"My teammates tell me how to play in the big leagues. They tell me, 'You're young and you have to respect the other team.'"
