Valentin, The Emergency Catcher

Steve Popper at North Jersey, writes about Jose Valentin and how he might end up behind the plate:

If the Mets need an emergency catcher, Jose Valentin is the man, a job he isn't looking forward to. His father, Jose, played 17 years for the Puerto Rican National team, and his brother is a catcher, too, but he's never played it professionally.

"I don't wish it to happen," Valentin said. "But if it happens, they know they can't ask for much. The batters will be seeing a lot of fastballs."
