Game Recap:: Padres 5 -- Mets 1
The Mets cannot find that "Big Hit"...
The Mets dropped the opener 5-1 to the Padres out at PETCO Park. Jorge Sosa looked great in his first start back from the DL, only having one troublesome inning. Sosa went 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs. He walked 2 and struck out 4.
...i have to say he looked pretty good...
...you could tell he was still hurting a little, as he was very stiff on the mound...
Joe Smith has a rough outing, facing 2 batters and giving up 2 hits. Pedro Feliciano came on and got out of a no out, bases loaded jam with only one run scoring against them.
Aaron Heilman came in for the 8th inning, going 2/3 of an inning giving up 3 hits, including a solo home run to Mike Cameron. Heilman allowed another run to score, which brought us to the final score of 5-1.
...not a great outing from Smith or Heilman...not at all...
...it looks so bad compared to the stellar SD staff...
The Mets picked up 9 hits, but only scored one run, as they continue to get men on base but cannot bring them home.
Jose Reyes went 2-4 tonight, as David Wright picked up 3 of the Mets hits. Wright scored the only run of the game, coming around on a Paul Lo Duca single in the 4th.
...so many hits, so little runs...
Carlos Delgado, Paul Lo Duca, Ruben Gotay, and Jorge Sosa each picked up 1 hit a piece. The only hit that went for more than a single was Jorge Sosa's double, which was his first double of his career.
...the pitcher gets the only extra base hit of the game...not a good sign...
Both Ruben Gotay and David Wright were thrown out trying to swipe a base in this game. Brian Giles was thrown out by Lo Duca as well.
...the Mets would just shoot themselves in the foot when they had runners on...
Game Ball:: Sosa and Wright.
