Mets Are Getting Overlooked
For some strange reason I think the Mets are getting intentionally passed over in hosting the All-Star game. The Mets haven’t held an All-Star game since the opening of Shea Stadium. Some of you Met fans may remember it, but for someone who wasn’t even alive then I feel the Mets are being left out.
Here’s a list of teams last two All-Star games and the time between each:
Mets – 1964 (started play in 1962) (47 and running)
Twins – 1965; 1985 (20 years)
Cardinals – 1966; 2009 (43 years)
Angels – 1967; 1989 (22 years)
Astros – 1986; 2004 (18 years)
Senators/Rangers – 1969; 1995 (29 years)
Reds – 1970; 1988 (18 years)
Tigers – 1971; 2005 (34 years)
Braves – 1972; 2000 (28 years)
Royals – 1973 (started play in 1969) (40 and running)
Pirates – 1994; 2006 (12 years)
Brewers – 1975; 2002 (27 years)
Phillies – 1976; 1996 (30 years)
Yankees – 1977; 2008 (31 years)
Padres – 1978; 1992 (14 years)
Mariners – 1979; 2001 (22 years)
Dodgers – 1959; 1980 (21 years)
Indians – 1981; 1997 (16 years)
Expos/Nationals – 1982 (started play in 1967) (42 and running)
Giants – 1984; 2007 (23 years)
Athletics – 1960; 1987 (27 years)
Cubs – 1947; 1990 (43 years)
Blue Jays – 1991 (started play in 1977) (32 and running)
Orioles – 1958; 1993 (35 years)
Rockies – 1998 (started play in 1993) (16 and running)
Red Sox – 1961; 1999 (38 years)
White Sox – 1983; 2003 (20 years)
The Mets are the oldest expansion team that hasn’t had another All-Star game the longest. With the game’s location being determined through 2009 and the next NL team to be in line will be the Cardinals (new Busch Stadium), the mets aren’t looking at an All-Star game until at least 2013. That will make it 51 years. Being in New York should have at least warranted the Mets to hold the game in a shorter time span than 51 years, but as many of us know, we’ll always be second best to the boys in the Bronx.
