Mets Could Have To Wait Until 2013 For All-Star Game

Ken Davidoff at AM New York, writes about the Mets and when they might get the nod for the All-Star Game:

the Mets want to christen Citi Field with a Midsummer Classic as soon as possible, and they're in the mix for an All-Star Game as soon as 2011, a person familiar with the situation said, confirming an Associated Press report. In reality, however, the Mets -- who, like the Yankees, are scheduled to open their ballpark in 2009 -- will probably have to wait until 2013 or later.

The games are already assigned through 2009, with the Cardinals set to follow the Yankees, and an American League club (likely the Angels) will get the 2010 game. The Diamondbacks should get the nod over the Mets in 2011, since their Chase Field opened in 1998.

Down the line, the Dodgers also want to host, which they last did in 1980. That's a long time ago, but nowhere as long as the Mets, whose only All-Star Game was in 1964.
