Mets Lose A Tough One
This is from Bleed Orange And Blue, because I just noticed that there was no post game. So here it is:
W- Brad Penny (12-1)
L- Jorge Sosa (7-5)
S- Jonathan Broxton (2)
The Mets looked terrible today. They were winning 4-1 going into the 4th inning, but that all changed. Jorge Sosa looked good. Good that is, until the 4th inning. The Dodgers had a 5 run inning. Hit after hit, Jorge Sosa just couldn't get anybody out
....he had one of his games that reminded us of the way he pitched last year; I hope this isn't a bad sign...
Scott Schoenweis pitched great in the 5th, but Willie decided to try to stretch him to 2 innings of work. Then in the 6th, he loaded up the bases with 1 out, and they sent in Joe Smith to get him out of the mess. It seemed like he did his job, as a ground ball of the bat of Russel Martin went to Wright, who threw a good throw to Gotay, who threw it away from Carlos Delgado
....it's a shame. Smith has been struggling lately and he came into the game to do what he did so well earlier this year and it was spoiled by Ruben Gotay...
Guillermo Mota pitched 2 perfect innings striking out two
....that's a good effort by Mota...
The Mets scored 4 early runs of Brad Penny, but then he settled down and pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball. The runs came from a Ramon Castro Sacrifice fly, a Lastings Milledge single, and a David Wright 2 run homer.Joe Beimel gave up a 2 run homer to Carlos Beltran that scored Jose Reyes
....a great offensive performance ruined...
Game Ball: David Wright and Carlos Beltran
